Te Mata Woodthorpe Merlot Cabernet 2005

Oct-23-2009

Te Mata`s own Bordeaux blend of grapes with 57% Merlot, 34% Cabernet and 9% Petit Verdot. Aromas of dark plum, blackberry and red roses follow through to blackcurrants and spices on the palate. Lovely wine, recommended with roasted red meats and hard cheeses.

Cloudy Bay Chardonnay, Marlborough 2007

Oct-23-2009

An irresistable mix of citrus fruits and toasted nut / pistachio aromas, on the palate quite savoury with a taut citrus core.

Intense citrus and floral aromas including orange and lime blossom lead on to a mouthful of quince, mandarin, passionfruit and ginger. Excellent choice with Thai and dishes that have a hint of chilli heat and spice.

Curio Bay

Light, fresh Sauvignon Blanc with peach and nectarine aromas and an appealing fruitiness on the palate which is light, clean and quenching. Simple, attractive.

Ata Rangi Pinot Noir, Martinborough 2007

Ata Rangi Pinot Noir

Ata Rangi Pinot Noir

One of New Zealand`s top Pinots. Richly layered and focused, drinking well now but may be aged for considerable time. Muscular style with dark plum / cherry aromas and exotic spice. On the palate richly layered and dense with savoury complexity and supple tannins.  Enjoy with lamb.. or, as we did recently, with  Thai!

Tinpot Hut Syrah, Hawkes Bay 2007

Tinpot Hut

Lovely well made Syah, a middle-weight which punches above its price point in my opinion, comparable to good northern Rhone.  Aromas of white and black pepper, violets and plums together with subtle hints of spicy chocolate. On the palate plums, pepper, smoke and cinnamon. Good structure with silky ripe tannins and a warm, ripe finish.

Wild Earth Pinot Noir, Central Otago 2007

Wild Earth

Wild Earth

Big Pinot with richly fruity up-front character and a lovely mouthfeel. Silky and plump. Half the grapes came from the Terraces Vineyards in Felton Road and the rest from their Lowburn Vineyard. Generous berry and forest fruit on the nose and layers of darks fruits and spice on the palate.

Lovely aromas and flavours and a good mouthfeel. Just so. I love this wine. In fact, it will be one I take to my family Chistmas lunch! Ripe, black cherry fruit on the nose following through to plum, cherry and chocolate characters on the palate. Vibrant and beautifully balanced. Sales of the wine support the Project Crimson which protects New Zealand`s native “Christmas Trees”, the Pohutukawa and Rata trees.

Te Mata Bullnose Syrah, Hawkes Bay 2007

Bullnose

Wonderful red fruits, plenty of attitude and in my book a real winner! Looking ahead a good choice for the turkey! Floral, plum and dark cherry aromas, on the palate a silky mouthfeel with plum, cherry, raspberry and delicious vanilla spice due to 16 months maturation in French oak barriques.
