Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Domaine de Cristia 2008
Baptiste and Dominique Grangeon have seriously increased the reputation of their Domaine, located in Courthézon. Over the three generations of the Grangeon family that still run the domaine, Cristia has expanded to 21 hectares and now includes Syrah and Mourvèdre, though Grenache is still the dominant variety both in the vineyards and in the wines Their philosophy and attention to detail is shown by Baptiste’s vigorous pruning and clever blending – 75 % Grenache, 15 % Syrah, 10 % Mourvèdre Blend aged in concrete vats (70%) and in 2 and 3 year – old barrels (30%). The ageing in vats takes place for 18 months, and for
12 months in barrels
Tasting notes:
Crimson ruby-red hues, smoke and black cherry with spicy aromas, slightly earthy, on the palate vibrant red fruits and juicy acidity, cassis, black cherry again, peppery, full-bodied, chewy and seductive. Requires red meat to match.
